Sushi, soba, and tempura are Tokyo’s typical original foods. Mikawa(みかわ) is an authentic Tokyo style, as called “Edo-mae(江戸前)”, tempura restaurant. It serves fine and authentic tempura lunch at JPY1,200. The lunch course includes squid, shrimp, fish, and some vegetables.
Current chef is a second generation of this restaurant. His father, a master of tempura and the founder of Mikawa, has moved to a new place nearby the original restaurant. The new restaurant is named Mikawa Zezankyo(みかわ 是山居). Today, I introduce the original place.
This restaurant uses sesame oil for its tempura. The characteristics of Tokyo style tempura are the oil. Sesame oil generates tempura’s savoury flavour.
This restaurant stands on a backstreet in Kayabacho, which is nearby Nihonbashi area. It is recommended to visit by 11:30 to avoid a long queue.
