One of The Best Three “Daifuku” in Tokyo

“Daifuku(大福)” is a classical Japanese sweet. Sweet red beans jam, as called “anko(あんこ)” in Japanese, is stuffed in a soft round rice cake.
Matsushimaya(松島屋) is a local Japanese sweet shop in Takanawa, Tokyo, established in 1918. It’s daifuku with whole black beans(豆大福) is known as one of the best three in Tokyo. Among a variety of daifuku, this daifuku has a different feature in its rich taste of the red beans jam. The beans jam is not so sweet or smooth, but full of the rich taste of the beans. The soft round rice cake is topped with whole black beans and seasoned with a little salt, which enhances the sweetness of the beans jam.

This sweets shop is also good at making steamed sticky rice with whole red beans, which is called “sekihan(赤飯)”.

It opens at 09:30 a.m. and closed on Sunday. Upon the opening, daifuku lovers make a long queue, and all the daifukus are sold out right away. You’d better to visit there before noon time at latest.

If you are lucky,  you can find this daifuku sold in Mitsukoshi Nihonbashi Main Store, a major department store in Nihonbashi.
